Bunny Lapin, Whipped Cream King

Aaron "Bunny" Lapin was born in St. Louis January 5, 1914. Lapin attended the University of Missouri in Columbia and Washington University Law School in St. Louis.

During the rationing era of World War II, Lapin used vegetable oil to create a cream substitue he named Sta-Whip. After the invention of the aerosol can, Lapin was the man who, in 1948, put whipped cream in the can. Lapin made his fortunes marketing Reddi-wip. Initially, Reddi-wip was sold and distributed by milkmen in St. Louis.

In 1951, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch called him "Bunny Lapin, Whipped Cream King." In 1955 Lapin received a patent for the dispensing valves atop aerosol cans. Like many successful entrepreneurs, he expanded his idea to other products and was the first to market shaving cream in aerosol cans (Reddi-Shave).

At the time of Lapin's death in July 1999, one of every two cans of aerosol toppings consumed in the United States was Reddi-wip.
